Francisco Somare
Francisco was born and raised in Cordoba, Argentina, where he earned his Veterinary Degree. In his first year as a veterinarian, he began working on dairy farms in Argentina and then decided to emigrate to New Zealand for a complete year to work full-time on a pasture-based dairy farm with 900 milking cows. Afterwards, Francisco moved to Spain for a year to work and learn about intensive milk production systems in Europe. Upon returning to Argentina, he continued working for animal nutrition companies such as GEPSA (formerly Cargill), in technical sales and as a field nutritionist, focusing on transition management and silage quality. He also worked with Alltech, supporting producers as a technical service specialist. After 10 years of experience in the dairy industry, Francisco moved to the United States with his family, where he earned his Master’s in animal science from Cornell University, working under Dr. Tom Overton. Francisco’s research focused on measuring the effects of feeding zeolite and calcidiol to close-up dairy cows on mineral metabolism and milk production. Passionate about transition cow management and preventative medicine, feed quality and technology inclusion in dairy systems, Francisco works with producers in Argentina to help them thrive through guidance and improvement of their processes.
